Hi!
I have now finished editing my Red Dead clip. I feel like it came out really well. I had a bit of trouble lip-synching dialogue but it wasn't as bad as the Matrix dialogue. I feel like the dialogue sounds really good and I am quite happy with the foley. I feel like the reverb and ambient environmental sounds really tied it all together. I got some great advice from Joe which helped me fix up minor details.
I feel like I could have done better with the barn scene as the footsteps were a bit off and there was very little ambience. I also feel like I could have found a better sound for the crashing of the table and chair. One small detail I enjoyed was learning to pitch shift and EQ, as it allowed me to reuse sounds or even convert another sound into what I needed. One example of this was when I converted a snippet of the wind sound into the sound of a fire igniting using EQ.
As for my Matrix clip, one big problem I am facing right now is that our recorded audio is very quiet. It is even hard to hear even at max volume. I have tried turning up faders and volume bars but it is still very quiet. I am unsure what caused this issue, perhaps the microphone we used or some problem in our recording set up. I will try turning up the gain but I am worried about hissing. I have also had some trouble finding good sounds for the bullet time montage. I am currently using the metal toy sound for the bullets whizzing by, but I would like to add a low rumble or reverb to make the scene more intense. I have tried some reversed explosion sounds, but they were all too short.
I am quite happy with the gun rack though. I used a combination of a looping typewriter sliding sound, an edited 'futuristic trolley car', and the sound of a librarian trolley. However it may be a bit loud at the moment. I did plan to have it harshly stop like the clip but it sounded strange so I instead let it fade out. I am also pretty happy with the typing and gun sound effects which I thought would be more difficult to line up and have sound non-repetitive.
I am having a little trouble lining up lip-synching as the actor for Neo said the lines a lot slower, but I have gotten pretty close with some editing.
My next goals are to finish the bullet time audio, re-look at the lip-synching, try to make the dialogue louder, adding reverb, and music.
