BSA 3D Class 32

BSA 3D Hi! I believe I have finished my UV unwrapping, so now I just have to texture.

BSA Drawing Class 16

BSA Drawing Hi! Today we are having our classmates read over our comics to see if they are legible to an unfamiliar audience. I am very anxious about this as I only have thumbnails and I am worried my story wont be understood.  There was some difficulty understanding but I think that was mostly due to it being thumbnails.

BSA 3D Hi! Today we are continuing UV unwrapping our characters.

BSA Audio Film Analysis- Baby Driver

BSA Audio Hi! Edgar Wright's Baby Driver is a film very heavily based on sound design. I love the way that the music is so integral to the film, and perfectly compliments the scenes, going as far as to have every audio cue on beat and creating this amazing rhythm to every fight and chase scene.  The sound design for Baby Driver is vital. It immerses into Baby's character throughout the film, showing us everything that Baby hears. One amazing example of this is the tinnitus ringing we hear every time there is no music playing. In the opening scene this even blends into the background music, but its also the first thing we hear, immediately establishing a very important part of Baby's character.  Using sound from the perspective of Baby also can be used to enhance the importance of scenes, like when Baby hears Debora singing, there is a slight echo from her walking through a corridor which makes it sound almost angelic for a second, showing Baby's immediate infatuation w...

BSA Audio Article Annotation 2

BSA Audio Hi! One of the clips I planned on doing was from the show 'Arcane', which has a very unique fantasy setting which included lots of creative and unique sounds. I found this article (https://www.asoundeffect.com/arcane-sound/) about how they made some of the more magical sounds, specifically of the two 'magical' substances in the show, Hextech and Shimmer.  One cool detail they discuss is the duality of the sound design for hextech and shimmer. These two elements represent the duality theme throughout the whole show, and are clearly designed to show both sides of magic, one which can be used to advance technology, and one that can be weaponized. Shimmer is clearly the 'darker' of the two and is associated with pain, or in the words of Brad Beaumont, " There is a lot of despair and agony at the center of Shimmer’s sound design.", To reflect this he designed the sound of shimmer transformations to be " very aggressive and oftentimes awful t...

BSA Audio Article Annotation

BSA Audio  Hi! This article (https://www.peshprints.com/opinion/2020/05/21/wholesome-heartfelt-film-the-half-of-it-review/) is a review of 'The Half of It', directed by Alice Wu, the film I used in my documentation. While the article isn't very long, it has a great paragraph that I wanted to discuss, about the sound design of the film and how it enhances the story.  " One of my favorite parts of the movie was the voice-over for each of the letters and texts exchanged between Ellie and Aster. Although Aster believes she is talking to Paul, Ellie and Aster’s words are vocalized by the two characters, making the written conversations between them a verbal one — the audio removes the physical boundary between Ellie and Aster, making the emotional connection between them more apparent to the viewer." This idea of removing the 'physical boundary' between the characters is something I touched on in my proposal, attempting to recreate this through fade ins which ...

BSA Audio Hand In

BSA Audio Hi! I have now finished my Matrix clip.  I was pretty happy with the result of my editing but got some extra feedback from Joe and fixed those issues. I ended up doing some touch ups to the reverb and some EQ on the trolley clip, but I didn't know exactly what he wanted me to fix with the EQ and the reverb didn't really show that much despite having a very high reverb on it. I then worked on making the bullet time shots more hyper-realistic. I played around with the EQ and made the other effects louder to make it seem more explosive. I didn't go as far as the original does but I still felt like it fit the scene.  I then also managed to figure out the clip gain and made the dialogue louder which was one of my main issues.  Overall I am pretty happy with the results. I am especially happy with the gun fight, as I really liked how the sound effects came out and I feel like the shells dropping, and the empty clicks really tied it together. I feel like I defini...

BSA 3D Class 30

BSA 3D Hi! Today we are learning to unwrap our characters for texturing. It was pretty straight forward but I had some issues unwrapping the more complex parts of the model such as the head, shoes, and ponytail. I also could not disconnect the hair from the head due to how I connected it.

BSA Audio Class 13

BSA Audio Hi! I have now finished editing my Red Dead clip. I feel like it came out really well. I had a bit of trouble lip-synching dialogue but it wasn't as bad as the Matrix dialogue. I feel like the dialogue sounds really good and I am quite happy with the foley. I feel like the reverb and ambient environmental sounds really tied it all together. I got some great advice from Joe which helped me fix up minor details.  I feel like I could have done better with the barn scene as the footsteps were a bit off and there was very little ambience. I also feel like I could have found a better sound for the crashing of the table and chair. One small detail I enjoyed was learning to pitch shift and EQ, as it allowed me to reuse sounds or even convert another sound into what I needed. One example of this was when I converted a snippet of the wind sound into the sound of a fire igniting using EQ.  As for my Matrix clip, one big problem I am facing right now is that our recorded a...

BSA Cross Disciplinary Class 28

BSA Cross Disciplinary Hi! Last class I helped make gift bags and talked to site about an AED as I am taking on the role of first aid officer.

BSA 3D Class 29

BSA 3D Hi! I instead worked on drawing class assignments as I am ahead in my animatic.

BSA Drawing Class 14

BSA Drawing Hi! I worked a bit on my comic, but ended up being unhappy with the sketches. I instead practiced some pose drawings and proportions. Later, I considered changing my story. I watched a good video about panel composition and then sketched up some thumbnails for the new story. I will see how they turn out before deciding if I will change my story.

BSA 3D Class 28

BSA 3D Hi! Today I will continue work on my animatic. I managed to finish the last of my animatic shots. It is lacking a lot of detail as I wanted to keep it as basic as possible. I also feel I could use some more moving camera shots since we have the freedom but right now I am pretty happy with the camera angles. I also feel it will end up much longer than anticipated if I don't cut some bits out. I will try to get dialogue recorded soon so I can time more accurately.  One thing I am considering is making another hallway or making it longer so I can have very isolating shots of the character looking very small and very far from the door, as it will emphasise her fear, the fact that she is alone, and that she is very small and young. I then put all my shots together in Premiere. A lot of them were too short so I had to extend a lot. I then used a zoom to record a draft of the dialogue to help space it out. I then chopped it up a bit but it is still nearly 2 minutes long. I ma...

BSA Audio Class 12

BSA Audio Hi! I have been working on editing for the last while. I think I am nearly done with my Red Dead clip. The main problem I want to fix right now is the lip syncing, which may be difficult. However I am very happy with the rest of the sounds and learnt how to add reverb and pitch shifts to really pull it together. I have not yet learned how to EQ though. I feel like the ambient wind really helped it feel more complete.

BSA Cross Disciplinary Class 27

BSA Cross Disciplinary  Hi! Today I will start work on the video file in premiere. I managed to edit the video together and uploaded it the teams files.

BSA 3D Class 27

BSA 3D Hi! Today we didn't have class but I came in and worked a bit on my animatic anyway. shot6-10 I ended up finishing shots 6 to 10 of my animatic. I ended up adding a head since head movements really sell the characters acting.

BSA Cross Disciplinary Class 26

BSA Cross Disciplinary Hi! I have been working on the flat colours for our artworks. I have finished the first 5 and only have two left to do. I finished those.

BSA 3D Class 26

BSA 3D Hi! Today i'm working on my animatic more.  shot1- 5 I managed to get a better grasp on the program tools and got to practice the camera and blocks moving as this is where I have the most moving shots. I find moving things using frames a bit annoying but it is the same as stop motion and 2D so it wasn't difficult to get a grasp on.

BSA Cross Disciplinary Class 25

BSA Cross Disciplinary Hi! Today I hope to make a finalised descion on character design so I can finish the sketches for Jess. I have done some more research but just wanted to go over it with Jessica. I could also check in with Dan about radio information.  I have confirmed the character design changes with Jess and will draft up an image to send to Nev for final confirmation. I also confirmed the radio information with Dan and will send it as soon as possible. I then finished sketching up the new character designs and I will send them to Nev to review. I will then try to complete the sketches and send them to Jess by Monday if possible.
