BSA Cross Disciplinary Class 18

 BSA Cross Disciplinary

Hi!

Proposal feedback

Today we got feedback on our proposal. The feedback was that our goals for the event was unclear, that we didn't clarify the narritive or the actual activities themself enough. We did not need to contain everything in our document in the pitch, and that our amount of research muddled our event. We focused too much on the research rather than the actual activities that we will be running. We had no lists of what also needs to be done, and no visuals or designs for the activities. Finance was too vague which was based on the fact that we didn't clarify the activities enough. Too many words, not enough visuals. The structure of the presentation didn't flow well.

I feel like this feedback was fair but I think it might have been a bit harsh as we don't really have any good examples of pitches. We have done a lot but we have also been told that most of those were incorrect and have had conflicting instructions from different classes. I also personally did not work on the actual presentation at all as I thought it was to be handled by the leads. I also feel like I didn't have much say in what we did, as I was in marketing and was simply doing what tasks I was asked to do.

I personally am also lost on the goals of the event. I am aware that it is meant to be educational but thats about it. The leads keep disscussing these stories that we are going to tell, but I don't know what stories or how they will be told. This reminds me a lot of The Power of Ahi, when we struggled to define what we were doing because no one was finalising anything, and we ended up doing nothing right. I also do not feel very passionate about this event. I think there are too many activities that we are going to be stretched across, and we are going to lose focus on the message of the event. I think is cluttered and a bit unorganised. I never really personally liked the event so I don't feel the urge to correct anything or get overly involved. I feel like im just doing what the leads tell me too.

We keep having this proposal compared to the role rotation pitches, but I feel this is different as it is a larger team, a larger event, that needs more detailed research. we were also criticised for the lack of visuals despite the fact that many of the role pitches did not have visuals except for design and this was not an issue that was criticised.

We then had Nev come in to quickly offer his advice. He reitirated the point that we shouldn't be afraid to work with Maori themes but to just be sure to do the research. I like this sentiment but I will admit it can be difficult to work with a culture that I don't fully understand, and it can be difficult to get reliable information when I don't really know any places to look of people to ask, so I appreciate him offering his contacts. I am also still a bit afraid of accidentally offending people by misinterpreting such an important event, but I will just keep trying to do the research.
