BSA Audio Techniques Class 2
BSA Audio Techniques
Hi!
We started by recapping what we went over last class
Transjuicer- Pre Amp- ADC (Analogue Digital Converter)- Digital Storage (PCM - Pulse Code Modulation), Sample Rate - 24bit, 48 hertz, - Software (DAW - Digital Audio Workstation) - Stored as WAV Files- Converted (ADC) - Power Amplifier- Speaker
We then learnt about the different types of film audio and some basic editing techniques. After that we watched some very interesting videos on foley and a great TED talk about how all audio in film is a lie. It was really interesting to see some of the behind the scenes and definitely sparked my creativity. I also found it fascinating how a lot of the times they will use sounds that are completely different to the real life sound to make it sound more hyper realistic. I found this similar to some forms of animation where a movement is exaggerated to seem more realistic than if they were to trace someone doing it in real life.
We then watched several clips from movies to see what we could hear. It was cool since I have never paid too much attention to the audio of films before and it was awesome to see the way that they enhance the film. I really enjoyed this task and hope we get to do it again. I also immediately thought of Edgar Wright's Baby Driver which fantastically uses music to further the story and coordinate each scene and is a great example of audio in film.
