BSA Audio Techniques Class 1
BSA Audio Techniques
Hi!
Our first assessment will be a proposal. We will need to research the genre, themes, and historical context of a clip from any media. We will then need to create a soundscape for said clip. You will then present it in class using a PowerPoint. 60 seconds, but no longer than 80 seconds. Our second assignment will be a series of short audio tasks done in class. Parts will be within a group but the final is individual. We will be replacing and editing audio for a clip.
We then went into more detail on the proposal assignment and documentation. After that we went over what sound is, including discussion about the biology of hearing sound, and the technology behind capturing sound. While it was interesting stuff it was a lot of information at once and some of it was a bit difficult to understand due to my lack of knowledge of audio.
Audio Quality vs Video Quality

I think it was interesting to actually test the example but I would have liked to see an example that was more visual based rather than a video that relies on dialogue. I do agree with him though that audio is more important but there are some exceptions such as silent films as film is primarily a visual medium.
The Importance of a Good Soundtrack

I thought it was a funny video and a great example of how a soundtrack can change a whole film. It shows that it can effect how people perceive everything from body language, to dramatic cues completely different when the soundtrack dictates the emotion and meaning of the scene.
