BSA 3D Animation Class 4

 BSA 3D Animation

Hi!

Today we started planning our stories for our short film. I started by sketching a quick turnaround of my main character Layla. I then thumbnailed out my story. I don't know if my story will work yet so I am not committed to the idea. I may have to spice up the shots a bit more.

I then did some brainstorming on how to make the story better. I had always planned to have thigs slightly change in the background to build up to this idea that someone's in the house, for example a door closing or a window open, or a painting distorted for a single frame or shot. This will also help create a sense of unease throughout the story if done right. To pull off a horror story like this I will need to have a strong sense of style and lighting to help it not feel boring or not scary. After watching a playthrough of the analogue horror game Andy's Apple Farm by M36 Games I was inspired to alter the reveal that her parents are not who they claim to be. I thought to make the shot slowly darken and perhaps even staticky or glitchy as she looks down in horror to find her shoes covered in blood, to then be cut off with a cheery "Good job, Layla!" from the narrator as the shot returns to normal. I also thought about adding some creepy imagery to flash at the ending to align more with my inspiration, The Mandela Catalogue, but I am still undecided.
I feel like the current story is not scary enough and comes across kind of boring. I feel like I may need a higher skill in 3D animation to properly pull this off as it may require better stylization than I can provide but I am still willing to give it a shot. Chris seemed hesitant about the idea but I am unsure whether that is with the story or my terrible explanation. I hope that he will give me further advice on how to improve to make this story possible or a new direction that may be more simple to complete.
